Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie

So last night I finally got to weight train for the first time in ages, and I was excited to make a delicious protein smoothie when I got home. Whey protein isolate is the fastest way to get protein to your muscles, which is important when you are trying to recover and/or build muscle from a weight training workout. Another key thing to include in a post workout drink or meal is carbohydrate that can be digested quickly. This smoothie is the perfect recovery drink (in my opinion!), however it is important to note that you will not like the way it tastes if you do not already like your protein powder. I am currently using All the Whey cinnamon bun flavor. Jay Robb vanilla is also a favorite ;).

Recipe: Serves 1

Mix the following in a blender…

1/3 cup canned pumpkin, chilled or frozen cubes (best)

1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1/4 tsp cinnamon

3/4 cup vanilla soy milk/almond milk/cow’s milk

3/4-1 scoop protein powder, vanilla   (I use Cinnamon Bun)

1 tsp maple syrup

1/4-1/2 banana, frozen

a pinch of xanthem gum and guar gum

1-2 ice cubes

Blend until smooth and garnish with a blob of whipped cream and a boba straw!

Benefits:

Whey protein isolate * is dairy free so lactose intolerant people can still use it! Its best quality is that it is incredibly bioavailable to the body, meaning that it is easier for the body to utilize for rebuilding muscles than other proteins. It is also a complete protein, meaning that it contains all the essential amino acids that the body cannot make on its own!

Pumpkin * one half cup contains 400% of your daily needed vitamin A! Also has lots of vitamin C and fiber!

Cinnamon * one of the healthiest spices because of its antioxidant concentration
